About us

Created by two London head teachers

We wrote Exercise Academics because we believe every child deserves a secure foundation. These workbooks make sure the basics are met, and provide the right challenge for every learner to grow.

Why we made these books

As head teachers, we see every day what makes the difference between a child who thrives and one who struggles: whether the basics are truly secure. When the foundations are strong, children learn faster, worry less and reach further.

We wanted workbooks that ensure those foundations are met and provide suitable challenge for all learners to grow, building good habits, reasoning and independence. So we wrote them ourselves, drawing on years in classrooms and in school leadership, and gave them a friendly guide: Monty the Mountain Goat.

Every book follows the same principle. Start where the child is. Build step by step. Aim high.

  • Foundations first

Children who are secure in the basics find everything that follows easier. Our books make sure the essentials of number, spelling and language are properly in place before anything is rushed.

  • Accessible and ambitious

Every topic starts from the National Curriculum for your child’s year, so any child can begin. The upper levels reach further, so no child is held back.

  • Pictures before digits

Children learn best when they see an idea, draw it and then solve it. Each book teaches pictorial methods that become thinking tools children can use for themselves.

  • Habits, reasoning, independence

Suitable challenge for every learner builds good study habits, clear reasoning and the independence to tackle problems alone.
